This policy explains the browser technologies involved in RaveHacks and how they relate to your choices. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small pieces of information a website or service stores in your browser. Local storage keeps information in the browser too, but is not a cookie and does not necessarily expire automatically. Scripts and pixels can also transmit information even when a cookie is not stored.
Some technologies support requested functions or security; others measure use, recognize returning visitors, or support marketing. A first-party cookie is not automatically essential just because it is stored under our domain.
2. Current behavior and controls
The current Google Analytics integration starts on page load. Klaviyo’s onsite script loads automatically where enabled; it is disabled in the layout for these legal pages. The reviewed integrations do not wait for a RaveHacks cookie-preference selection. This version does not provide a dedicated, site-wide cookie preference center.
A Cookie Policy is not itself a consent mechanism. Reading this page or continuing to use the site does not give consent to optional tracking. Browser settings and provider tools offer some controls, described below, but are not substitutes for any consent or opt-out mechanism we are legally required to provide.
3. Cookies and browser storage relevant to the site
The table below distinguishes code-confirmed local storage from provider-documented cookies associated with our integrations. It is not a completed browser cookie audit. Provider defaults are not verified production lifetimes; configuration, updates, consent settings, and browser restrictions can change what appears and how long it remains.
| Technology | Purpose and provider | Duration and verification |
|---|---|---|
_ga and _ga_* | Google Analytics: distinguish browsers and maintain measurement/session state. Analytics, not required for reading guides. | Google documents a default of up to 2 years, subject to settings and browser limits. Integration confirmed in code; cookies and live expiry need browser verification. |
__kla_id | Klaviyo: recognize visits and, when identified, associate browsing with a profile. Supports marketing measurement and onsite behavior. | Klaviyo documents up to 2 years for identified visitors, often shortened by browsers. Integration confirmed in code; actual placement and lifetime need verification. |
ravehacks:packing-list:v1 | RaveHacks local storage: retain packing selections, progress, and custom items for the requested tool. | Code-confirmed key. Browser storage has no automatic cookie-style expiry; remains until cleared, reset, or removed by the browser. |
ravehacks-saved-festivals | RaveHacks local storage: retain saved festival favorites. | Code-confirmed storage namespace. Remains until cleared, changed, or removed by the browser; not an account backup. |
| Cloudflare security cookies, where enabled | Security or challenge features may use cookies such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance. Not every Cloudflare site sets them. | Feature-dependent; not confirmed as present on RaveHacks by this review. Cloudflare documents 30 minutes of inactivity for __cf_bm; other durations depend on the feature and settings. |
Cloudflare’s Web Analytics product is distinct from its security cookies: Cloudflare describes Web Analytics as not using cookies or local storage for usage metrics. That does not mean every Cloudflare service, or RaveHacks as a whole, is cookie-free.
4. Maps, email, and external links
The interactive map uses Mapbox. Loading map resources involves communication with that provider; its product privacy notice describes relevant processing. Do not assume map-related requests stop merely because analytics cookies are blocked.
Newsletter emails can contain tracked links or pixels that report engagement. Blocking images in an email may affect open tracking, but does not necessarily stop click tracking.
Ticket, retail, affiliate, music, and other external links can lead to services that set their own cookies or collect referral information. Those destinations control their own technology. A cookie set by the destination after you leave RaveHacks is not necessarily a cookie set on this site.
5. How to manage stored information
Use your browser’s privacy settings to inspect, block, or delete cookies and website data for RaveHacks. Deleting website data can erase your saved packing list and festival favorites. Blocking only third-party cookies does not necessarily block first-party analytics cookies or requests made without cookies.
To restrict Google Analytics in supported browsers, Google provides an Analytics opt-out browser add-on. This applies to supported Google Analytics measurement, not all site technologies. You can also use browser-level tracking protections or content blockers, recognizing that they may affect some functionality.
Manage newsletter subscriptions using the unsubscribe link in our emails. Manage “Near Me” location access in your browser’s site-permission settings. Email preferences, location permission, browser storage, and third-party cookies are separate controls.
Deleting a cookie does not delete information previously received by a provider. Cookies may be created again on a later visit unless loading or storage is prevented. To ask about information held by RaveHacks, use the request process in our Privacy Policy.
6. Browser privacy signals
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are different signals. The reviewed RaveHacks integrations do not implement a site-level handler for either signal. A browser or provider may apply independent protections. Where applicable law requires a recognized opt-out signal to be honored, this policy does not remove that obligation.
7. Provider information
For more detail, see Google Analytics cookie documentation, Klaviyo’s cookie documentation, Cloudflare’s security-cookie documentation, Cloudflare Web Analytics, and Mapbox’s product privacy notice. Provider documentation can change independently of this page.
8. Changes and contact
We will update this policy as tools, settings, or controls change. The date identifies the latest revision; material changes may require additional notice or a fresh choice under applicable law.
